LU\u00cdS VIEIRA-BAPTISTA was born in Lisbon, in 1954.\u00a0
For military reasons, he graduated in Piloting in the Merchant Navy Nautical Officer course. He attended the Life Model Drawing course at SN Belas Artes in Lisbon.\u00a0
He exhibited his work individually for the first time in 1975, at the Casino Estoril Art Gallery.\u00a0
In the eighties he moved to Switzerland, where he truly began an international artistic career.
He returned to Portugal in 1990, carrying the aesthetic concept he created, \u2018Visionism\u2019, and formed two artistic groups:\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The \u201cVisionista\u201d, where the aforementioned aesthetic was presented in a Manifesto (Convento do Beato, Lisbon 1991), and the \u201cArtitude\u201d, aimed at intervening in public and heritage spaces with high-impact installations: \u201cCastelo de Leiria\u201d (The Blue Planet), \u201cM\u00e3e d\u00b4\u00c1gua das Amoreiras\u201d, Lisbon, (Nymphs of the Tagus and other goddesses) and \u201cA Divina Trag\u00e9dia\u201d, Museu de Hist\u00f3ria Natural, in Lisbon, among others (1994\/95).\u00a0
In 2000, the book\/album \u201cVisionismo ou as Sincronias do Acaso\u201d was launched at the International Contemporary Art Fair by Hugin Editores, and in 2021, Sociedade Estoril Sol published another book\/album entitled \u201cSonhar Portugal\u201d, referring to the visionist paintings of the Century. XXI.\u00a0
In 2003 he was awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit, Gold level, by the C.M. from Oeiras after building the sculptural monument \u201cAt the sea gate: Visionist Ship\u201d.\u00a0
Since 2017, the Main Hall of the Marquis of Pombal Foundation, Aciprestes Palace, Linda-a-Velha, has been named after him: Lu\u00eds Vieira-Baptista Main Hall.
He has held more than 50 solo exhibitions and dozens of collective and group shows.\u00a0
His most recent solo exhibition took place at the Convento de Cristo, in Tomar, (\u201cTelesma and the Knights of the Sea\u201d, 2023), and from February 17, 2024 he will participate in the collective exhibition of the David Melgueiro Association www.davidmelgueiro.org, of which he is the president, at the Loul\u00e9 salt mine with the environmental theme \u201cOceans \u2013 Sea is life\u201d.
The Municipal Councils of Lisbon, Oeiras, Cascais, Amadora, Sintra and \u00d3bidos have his works, both in painting (Sea Museum in Cascais, Water Museum, Lisbon, Jos\u00e9 Saramago Library, \u00d3bidos) and in public sculpture (Lisbon, Oeiras and Cascais), as well as some official bodies (ISEG, Lisbon; Escola Superior N\u00e1utica Inf. D. Henrique, Pa\u00e7o de Arcos; Polytechnic Institute, Leiria) and private bodies, Portuguese and foreign, among which the collection of Prince Albert II of Monaco stands out.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
